Peter Arnett and Geraldo Rivera both deserve to get their asses fired and kicked out of Iraq, but I would take it a step further. To prove that the security of our military forces is not a matter to be taken lightly for the sake of ratings, they both need to be prosecuted when they return to the States. Maybe treason is going a bit far, but I think that something appropriate can be arranged. I firmly believe that this “embedded journalist” concept is an accident waiting to happen; it’s too damn easy for someone to slip up or intentionally reveal information that can be used against our troops. Maybe Peter Arnett didn’t directly endanger soldiers like Geraldo did when he revealed troop movements, but Arnett’s remarks were perhaps even worse, because they bolstered Iraqi propaganda against the war effort, something much more damaging in the long run. What a couple of dicks.
Update: The Borowitz Report hilariously reports that “Geraldo gives precise location of Peter Arnett.”
