Entertainer Robert Goulet died yesterday at the age of 73 “while awaiting a lung transplant after being diagnosed with a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis in September.” Robert Goulet was known for his many roles on stage, film, and television. Rather than remembering one of his more notable roles, I, of course, immediately recalled his cameo appearance on The Simpsons in Season 5’s episode $pringfield.
The video above is a capture I made of his scenes in that episode. You may need to download a divx plugin to see the video, but it’s worth it, as the video quality is much better than that of YouTube; Firefox at least automagically finds it for you…
We’ll miss you, Robert… 🙁
The Adventures of Accordion Guy in the 21st Century has compiled an extensive list of Simpsons scenes and their reference movies, comparing key images of each episode from the movie that influenced it.
Cinematical reports that a theatrical adaptation of the classic arcade game Joust is in the works. I love the arcade game, but I can’t see how this won’t suck. Hard.
Stacy Hedger’s trumpet rendition of the Star Wars theme (YouTube video) is quite possibly the most painful musical performance I have ever heard.
Neatorama posted about a very cool piece of art entitled Salad:
In November 2006 Till Nowak created the image Salad. For this image he created 12 digital vegetable models in 3ds max using photographic references. They were combined to become a tribute to the fantastic biomechanical creations of H.R. Giger and the vegetable portraits of Giuseppe Arcimboldo.
Hot Chicks with Douchebags is a web site full of pictures of, well, the title says it all. Enjoy! 😉
kottke.org posts about Cadaeic Cadenza, “a 3834-word story by Mike Keith where each word in sequence has the same number of letters as the corresponding digit in pi.” Wow.
