There’s More Than One Way to Map an Election
There’s More Than One Way to Map an Election
“Electoral maps have been around since the 1800s. Maybe it’s time to try something new. ” – My Comments : It’s about that time again. Geographically correct “Red and Blue” electoral maps generally fail to visually convey the vitally important fact that regions with higher population density wield more electoral votes. This notion isn’t revelatory by any means, but it would be nice to hear it addressed by pundits more often. Unfortunately, as the article points out, the standard paradigm isn’t likely to change any time soon.
I’ll refrain from any pithy, cynical statements on the lamentable state of American geographic knowledge that prevents a more accurate model from being embraced. Oops, too late. :-p

“This looks amazing! ” – My Comments :
“ ” – My Comments : This kitten had been plaintively meowing outside our doors on and off for almost a week, and we were finally able to coax it into the house Saturday morning just before the rain really hit. He was particularly interested in meeting Crockett and Stubbs; without their presence we might not have managed to rescue him as quickly. The girls have dubbed him Mozart because his black and white coloring reminds them of piano keys. 🙂
He’s currently confined to our bedroom until at least one more vet visit confirms that it’s OK for him to interact with our cats. So far he’s still very skittish around us, but as you can see in this video he’s at least out from under the bed now. Such a cute kitten…

The Earth Story
“Undulatus asperatus cloud formations are so rare that they were not proposed as a separate cloud classification until 2009. The Cloud Appreciation Society suggested the name asperatus, as the word comes from the Latin verb ‘aspero’, meaning to make rough. It is thought that asperatus clouds’ choppy undersides may be due to strong winds causing disruption in previously stable layers of warm and cold air.
Graeme Anderson, an MSc student at the Department of Meteorology, Reading University, studied weather records and used a computer model to simulate asperatus clouds. In doing so, Graeme found that the clouds form in the sort of conditions that produce mamma (mammatus) clouds; asperatus clouds form when the winds up at the cloud level cause the cloud to shear into wave-like forms known as undulatus.
More common in the plains of the United States (try Iowa), asperatus clouds are at their weird and swirly best during the morning or midday hours after a thunderstorm.
