The link is actually more of a rant about “bleating and whining and high nerd drama over how the restored versions of I and II don’t look—what?—’Blu-ray’ enough."  However, there was some shocking information about the state of the original negatives:

Held together with tape, the original negative was filthy and riddled with scratches, rips and tears, some of which broke into the image area; in some sections, parts of the image had actually been torn away. An entire reel (1B) had at some point been removed and replaced with a dupe.

That sounds horrifying, but obviously they were able to complete the restoration successfully…

If you don’t have a deep fryer, then this article presents an easy way to make French Fries: “The trick is to put the potatoes into cold oil and slowly bring it up to frying temperature."  However, this can take up to an hour, a lot longer than deep frying.

Thankfully, we have a deep fryer at home.  Mmmm… French Fries.  🙂
