Ronald McDonald
There’s more than one Ronald McDonald?! And here I thought I was so special when he came to my seventh birthday party in Columbia Mall… 🙁
Barbra Streisand vs. California Coastal Records Project
Last year I made a post about the California Coastal Records Project, a very cool effort that aims to document the entire California coastline with pictures taken from a helicopter in order to provide data on erosion and other environmental concerns.
Well, apparently Barbra Streisand only supports the First Amendment when it suits her, as she has sued the Project because her home happens to be in one of the pictures. Read the official press release, one of these other news releases, or The Smoking Gun for more information. I for one think that this is unconscionable. Her argument that people can find her house from these photos is completely baseless; her address is a matter of public record, and the photo doesn’t reveal anything more than what it looks like. What bullshit; her lawsuit will draw more attention to her home’s location than the website ever did…
More New House Stuff
We finally made the big move on Saturday, and although the weather didn’t cooperate much (what else is new?), we got just about everything into the new house safely and soundly. Thanks to everyone that made it down this week and last week to help out; we definitely couldn’t have done it without you.
Now, the fun part begins. As I sat down yesterday and looked at the dozens of boxes, pieces of furniture, arwork, and mounds of clothing lying around, I realized that we have a lot of work ahead of us before we can get things in order. It’s a little distressing for me to see things this way, as I can be pretty anal about keeping my stuff organized sometimes, but at this point I’ll have to calm down a little and not try to get it all done at once.
As for the cat situation, PIA, the new cat, has warmed up to us pretty nicely but has some major issues with Ozzie intruding on “her house.” He’s pretty much nonplussed about the whole situation and is more concerned with exploring his new environment, but I think it will be a little while before they hopefully get used to each other’s presence. In the meantime, we get to hear some pretty interesting exchanges of hisses and growls as the two confront each other occasionally.
I’d like to say that things will be less hectic now that we’ve moved in, but that probably won’t be the case just yet as we continue to assemble the household. I’ll do my best to update the page and catch up with everyone, but bear with me as I get back into the swing of things…
Homer Simpson To Become Honorary Citizen Of Winnipeg
CNews reports that “Homer Simpson will be made an official honorary citizen of [Winnipeg] this Friday – a follow-up to last year’s revelation that the main character of TV’s longest-running animated sitcom is based on a real-life Winnipeg native, The Simpsons creator Matt Groening’s father.” Woo hoo!
Mike Tyson Is Crazy
In a recent interview with Greta van Susteren, Mike Tyson contends that he did not commit the rape that put him in prison for 6 years in 1992. Having obviously contemplated the conviction for some time now, however, he says, “I just hate her [alleged victim Desiree Washington’s] guts. She put me in that state, where I don’t know…I really wish I did now. But now I really do want to rape her.” It’s nice to see this cerebral, civilized side to Mike Tyson. Freak.
Happy 100th Birthday, Bob Hope!
Although I imagine that Bob Hope might be unknown to Kids These Days, his legacy as an American comedic icon should be undisputed among those who know and love him. Bob Hope celebrates his 100th birthday today, with a career of over 80s years in stage, screen, and television under his belt, as well as perhaps his best-known achievement, “perform[ing] in front of more than 10 million members of the military, from venues ranging from World War II battlefields to Saudi Arabia just before the Persian Gulf War.” Happy Birthday, and many more!
Reading Rainbow In Dire Straits
Reading Rainbow, the popular PBS show for children, is fighting for its survival, as it struggles to find funding in order to continue producing new shows. Hosted by LeVar Burton, the show “counterintuitively uses television to introduce children to a world of books,” but because it lacks corporate sponsorship and targets a small demographic, it faces cancellation within months unless money can be raised. I fondly remember watching the show when I was younger and really hope that someone steps up and helps out, as it would really be a shame to lose such a quality show. Hopefully the fact that CNN is spotlighting the story will help matters, but I figure it can’t hurt to spread the word here…
Duck Hunt!
Remember Duck Hunt? Play the online Flash version here. OK, so it’s not the same without the cheesy fake laser guns, but it’s still fun. 🙂
Patrick Roy To Retire
I was shocked to hear the news that legendary goalie Patrick Roy is going to announce his retirement today after 18 years in the league. Although he’s 37 years old, he’s still one of the best goalies in the game, and his legacy will certainly never be forgotten:
Roy is a four-time Stanley Cup champion – two each with Colorado and Montreal – and is the only three-time winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to the playoff MVP. He is the league’s career leader in victories with 551 and games played with 1,029, and he’s also tops in playoff victories, games played and shutouts.
I guess there’s something to be said for leaving at the top of your game, but I for one will miss his imposing presence on the ice.
