CotD

Today’s color is a disgusting mixture of orange and olive green. It’s the color of Iraqi ballistic missiles being blown up by Patriots, and the reality of war beginning to set in for our troops who were attacked by them. Hopefully, I’ll have a more bright, cheery color for tomorrow. 🙂

Gulf War Part II

The war with Iraq has started, so far with limited Tomahawk attacks, but with a larger, combined assault imminent. Networks have been airing round-the-clock specials with their “exclusives” and speculations since last night, so prepare to be inundated for some time. Because of this media saturation, I’ll probably refrain from posting much about the war unless I see something unusually interesting or obscure. For now, I wanted to post a couple of opinion pieces I came across and found interesting:

Michael Moore wrote an open letter to W dated last Monday. I generally like Michael Moore despite his sometimes overly liberal views, mostly because he still makes good points in an amusing fashion. His letter is a little over-the-top but contains some well-reasoned points as well as a couple of good zingers. I disagree with his assessment of France, though. They just suck.

Jason Kottke is well-known as a veteran blogger, and he has decided to weigh in with his thoughts on the conflict. I really enjoyed his post, especially because I basically agreed with it on every point. “Summing up, Bush bad, war bad, this war not so bad even though bad Bush reasons also bad.”

8Bit Joystick has a poignant reminder of simpler times.

Whether you’re for or against this war, it is upon us. Please take a moment to think about the soldiers serving their country in this conflict and pray for their safe return.

Curtain Call for the Tomcat?

I know we have some F-14 fans here, so hopefully this article will be interesting. It’s mostly about the maintenance required to keep them flying, but it’s properly respectful of the mighty bird. Includes a few more pix for the collectors, too.

Color of the Day (CotD)

Shelley gave me an idea for a creative outlet – naming a Color of the Day. It could be based on the day’s events, general moods, or whatever. This will be an experiment – I hope to get suggestions and comments about it. Today’s color is Sandstorm. You may have seen the reports of the sandstorm in the Iraqi desert. (A sign from God?) Also, I woke up today to the sounds of a county truck driving up and down the street trying to clean the curbs with one of those leaf vacuum trailers, but it was too weak to clean up most of the sand from the snowstorms. Instead, it just blew a huge cloud of dust out the top of the truck. Our tax dollars at work – building a stronger, dustier community one street at a time.

Happy Tree Friends

Happy Tree Friends is a series of Itchy and Scratchy-esque cartoons starring a gaggle of cute, cuddly, animals in situations gone horribly awry. Funny in a grisly, macabre kind of way, like Itchy and Scratchy taken a little further…

Google Rules

Fast Company has a very thorough, informative article on Google, going into the company’s outlook and philosophies as well as the wide-ranging influence the search engine has had on people’s Internet experience. A Google IPO has been rumored for some time now and is highly anticipated by investors. I’m generally hesitant to go into the stock market, especially with Internet company stocks, but I will strongly consider buying Google stock if and when it is available.
