Martin Scorsese appears to be the latest director embracing 3-D, according to Variety. The filmmaker plans to experiment with the technology for the first time with his forthcoming [adaptation of the young adult novel] The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which is expected to start filming in the U.K. in June with a potential December 2011 release.
Joss Whedon to Direct “The Avengers”
Awesome news.
Nerds like myself everywhere this week are rejoicing from the news that a movie studio got some smarts and hired Joss Whedon to direct a feature film. And a major one no less. Joss will be helming The Avengers, which mashes together the Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and possibly Hulk movies into one film, no easy task for any director, much less one with only one film under his belt (Serenity).
But fans of Whedon know how brilliant the man is, and how he loves his comics. Go here to read how Joss got the job.
Britain Closes Airspace as Volcanic Ash From Iceland Spreads
Wow, this is a big deal!
British civil aviation authorities ordered the closing of the country’s airspace as of noon on Thursday to shield aircraft from a high-altitude cloud of ash drifting south and east from an erupting volcano in Iceland. The plume shut down airports and forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights in a wide arc from Ireland to Scandinavia.
The image above from FlightRadar24 shows aircraft starting to clear out of UK airspace.

Star Wars: Uncut is the brainchild of a self-described “Technologistioner,” Casey Pugh. He broke up Episode IV into 473 separate, 15-second segments from the opening battle over Tatooine to the celebration on Yavin IV. Any fan can choose one section and reshoot it in the style of their choosing. Once all the segments are complete and submitted, the film will be knitted back together in all its disjointed, online glory.
Apparently, the film is now complete; screenings of the entire film in its craptacular glory are to occur very soon. The above teaser video gives you an idea of what to expect…
