Neomeme's list of Nine Cool Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do With Wikipedia is very useful...
The World Airports Google Earth layer takes a while to load, but that's because it's loading the locations of thousands of airports all over the world.
The Google Earth layer for the CIA World Factbook 2007 is a great reference...
Strange Maps overlays Peter Bird's map of Middle-Earth on a map of Europe, which apparently has some basis in fact.

Speaking of Harry Potter, there is actually a Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross Station in London. How cool is that?
CRACKED.com came up with a list of 6 Questions The Last Harry Potter Book Had Better F#@king Answer. I'm pretty psyched about the book, so it better not get spoiled for me. I'm still pissed off at some little asshole spoiling Return of the Jedi for me back in 1983 before I got to see it... ;-(
The YouTube video the john cusack project shows the results of a pretty fun idea:
My crew and I managed to convince 90 random people in San Antonio to pose like John Cusack in the movie Say Anything for twenty seconds each while we filmed them. Because of a mixture of elements including inappropriately filled out release forms, bad lighting, and limited song length, we could only put 65 people on the video. but still... freakin awesome.
Check out the YouTube music video for Guyz Nite's Die Hard:
Man, if there’s ever been any action star who deserved a song in their honor that sounds like it was written by Smash Mouth, it is undoubtedly John McClain. There’s pretty much nothing I don’t love about this video from Guyz Night (great name), and something tells me you’re going to enjoy this four and a half minutes far more than the three hours of explosions and bad dialogue this week’s release of Live Free or Die Hard has to offer.Awesome! By the way, has anyone seen Live Free or Die Hard yet? Tell me what you think if you have... Better Off Dead Camaro (warning: Flash site) is the chronicling of one man's quest to find, purchase, and restore the actual 1967 Camaro featured in the movie Better Off Dead...

Philosophy of History is an insanely thorough site with essays on ancient history, military history, and calendars, but the main draw is a historical overview of the rulers of every (and I mean every) civilization. You're in for a long read...

Strange Maps posted about the map Greetings from Bruceville, in which the maker reconstructed a map of New Jersey based on Bruce Springsteen's lyrics. Click on the image to see a larger version and an explanation of the different things to see...
Cory Doctorow's excellent short story When Sysadmins Ruled the Earth is available to read on Jim Baen's Universe. I can highly recommend the short story collection in which it was published, Overclocked: Stories of the Future Present, as well as Doctorow's other novels.
EurAtlas has a very nice map of Europe in the year 1000.
Emo Student's Crayola Emos are pretty funny...

Angry Astronomer posts about the above picture: The NY Times has a picture up of the shuttle leaving the space station. Over the right booster we can see an object that's supposedly the space station. But us geeks know what it really is.Cue the John Williams soundtrack... :-)
Check out some excellent hip-hop MP3 tracks found at MetaFilter. In particular, "Brooklyn hip hop lovers The Rub compile a[n eleven part] history of hip hop" and DJ Jaguar Skills' 1979-2006: A Hip-Hop Odyssey (800 Tracks in 48 Minutes) megamix are awesome...
The first Rambo IV trailer is out. As far as Rambo movies go, it might not suck. Then again, that bar isn't set very high... ;-p

The Onion reports that Hank Williams Jr. was recently honored by the Institute for Football Preparedness. :-)
This is kind of old news, but if you haven't seen the YouTube video "I Got a Crush...On Obama" then it's worth a laugh. I'll warn you that it's probably a bit NSFW, though...
Check out the IFILM video No Direction, Period: A spot-on Bob Dylan impersonator reveals the hidden truth: Dylan actually wrote all the top-selling music of the last 35 years, including "Big Butts," "Drop it Like it's Hot," and "My Humps" (written in honor of Joni Mitchell's Joan Baez well-disguised little hunchback). Essentialist Explanations is a bit nonsensical at times, but I suppose at least geek linguists will find it funny ;-):
This page comprises a list of 901 "essentialist explanations" of the form "Language X is essentially language Y under conditions Z." I have edited some entries for uniformity, clarity, or good English. The entries are grouped for convenience rather than correctness. In particular, fictional languages belonging to actual language families are grouped with their natural language relatives.
