Nerdcore's Real Life Futurama is an interesting take on the opening sequence of Futurama. Click on the image to see the full artwork...

Don't get me wrong, Facebook can be pretty cool, but it too often devolves into something like the video FaceBook In Reality (YouTube video).
MadAtoms' post Hillary Clinton: The Psycho Ex-Girlfriend of the Democratic Party was too good not to post... :-)

The still untitled sequel to the 1998 X-Files film is supposedly debuting on July 25th; he official site will supposedly have a trailer soon. I was a big fan of the series except for the craptacular last season without David Duchovny), but the movie didn't quite do it for me. Let's hope that the sequel is better... Update: Geeks Of Doom (via CNN) posted that the new title is The X-Files: I Want To Believe.
New Scientist reports that dolphins can swim no more than 54 kilometers per hour, primarily because swimming any faster causes painful cavitation bubbles to form near the tail. Pretty wild...
CNN reports that "The Air Force decided to accelerate the retirement of the F-117s to free up money to modernize the rest of the fleet. The F-117 is being replaced by the F-22 Raptor, which also has stealth technology." I guess I can understand their rationale, but I'm surprised that this has happened so soon, especially considering how many aircraft types have been in service for much longer than the F-117. Based on this news, I'm wondering whether we'll even see any Stealth Fighters on the air show circuit this year... :-( The last F-117s scheduled to fly will leave Holloman on April 21, stop in Palmdale, California, for another retirement ceremony, then arrive on April 22 at their final destination: Tonopah Test Range Airfield in Nevada, where the jet made its first flight in 1981. The Simpsons Park has a comprehensive list of art references from the show. One of my favorites is above (I'm a big M.C. Escher fan)... Topless Robot's list of The 10 Star Wars Toys that Unintentionally Look Like Other Celebrities is hilarious! I know that I'm not the only one that saw the General Rieekan/John Kerry similarity... ;-)
If you haven't already, you should definitely take a look at the trailers for the new Speed Racer movie. I'm not sure what to make of it yet. It's definitely not like the Old School cartoon, but I'm wondering whether it's too hyperkinetic and oversaturated. Definitely worth the watch for me, although I hope I'm not disappointed...
Check out this YouTube video of quite possibly the worst hockey "fight" ever.
April Fools' Day On The Web is collecting all of today's pranks on the Interweb for your viewing pleasure. Google Blogoscoped has another nice roundup.
By the way, Happy Birthday, Tobias! :-) Monday, March 17, 2008
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, The Swedish Chef, Animal, and Beaker from The Muppets perform Danny Boy for your enjoyment. :-) Friday, March 07, 2008
I was first exposed to D&D back in elementary school, and although I tried to get into it, creating and equipping characters with the help of my class' "dungeon master," I never really played through an actual campaign. However, I've since played many a computer-based role-playing game that owed its existence to the influence of Gygax's creation, and I can say that I've enjoyed most of them immensely. It's been quite a while since I've immersed myself in games like that; maybe it's time again... Gary Gygax's influence over many of us is huge. He will definitely be missed, but there is no doubt that his legacy will live on. I'll leave you with a particularly poignant comic from xkcd:
I love this Indian version of Guns N' Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine, apparently done as a commercial for Channel V.
This image of the Earth and Moon as Seen from Mars taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is pretty cool...
Food Fight is:
an abridged history of war, from World War II to present day, told through the foods of the countries in conflict. Watch as traditional comestibles slug it out for world domination in this chronologically re-enacted smorgasbord of aggression. You have to see this one... :-) Friday, February 29, 2008
The YouTube video People in Order is: part of a series of short films that assembles the people of Britain in a given order. In just 3 minutes, we meet 100 different people who are arranged according to their age, starting from age 1.
For those of you that are (like me) fans of the movie Lost In Translation, you were probably left wondering what Bob Harris (Bill Murray) whispered to Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) at the end of the movie. Well, wonder no more. Someone has digitally massaged the dialogue in that scene to the point where you can hear what he said. Check out the YouTube video here, unless you'd like to leave it to your imagination. I was quite torn and almost didn't listen, but in the end I relented and don't think it's too much of a spoiler...
There are some real "winners" in this photographic showcase of science experiments. One of my favorites is above...
Check out this YouTube video of a three-year-old explaining the plot of Star Wars.
You've got to check out this video. :-)

Check out this feature detailing the History Of Water Renderings In Computer Games. It's in German, but it's mostly images anyway. Above is a screencap of Silent Service, a Commodore 64 game from 1985. Things have changed a bit since then... The Middle East has a lot of oil! That's no revelation, but this map projection sizes countries according to their amount of oil, depicting just how much that holds true.
So, you want to be an ARCADE champion? chronicles "one man's quest to play all 4,000 games in the Twin Galaxies world records book alphabetically." Worth a read, although it's only sporadically updated, and he's only up to Asteroids Deluxe so far.
You have got to check out this video for NBC's 60th Anniversary Celebration back in 1986:
Here is a case-in-point when people say "they don't make them like they used to:" a number performed by a variety of NBC's "Family" members on their 60th Anniversary Celebration. This camp classic is a parody/homage/reworking of the song "Family" from the musical Dreamgirls and features Barbara Eden, Nell Carter, Charlotte Rae, Punky Brewster (Soleil Moon Frye), Alfonso Ribeiro, Marla Gibbs, and Bea Arthur.Craptastically delicious!
In case you haven't come across it yet, there is a new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I'm really looking forward to this one, although we'll have to see whether Harrison Ford can still carry an action movie...
Also, I came across a really nice web site for all things Indiana Jones, TheRaider.net. Check it out... |
