The photos are arranged into three sections \u2013 Building NASA, Launch\/Takeoff and NASA Center Namesakes. We\u2019ve compiled some of the photos <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.denverpost.com\/captured\/2010\/09\/02\/from-the-archive-historic-nasa-photos\/2434\/\" target=\"_blank\">below<\/a> but head on over to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/nasacommons\/\" target=\"_blank\">NASA Flickr stream<\/a>\u00a0for the whole collection. The photos are also available, along with thousands more, on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nasaimages.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">NASA Images<\/a>\u00a0website.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There are some really amazing photos in this collection, making it extremely difficult to choose one for my post.  In the end, I decided on one that is symbolic of the impending end of Space Shuttle missions:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>NASA&rsquo;s modified Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft with the Space Shuttle Atlantis on top lifts off from Edwards Air Force Base to begin its ferry flight back to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
