The map above was built from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.whrc.org\/mapping\/nbcd\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">National Biomass and Carbon Dataset (NBCD),<\/a>\u00a0released in 2011. It depicts the concentration of biomass\u2014a measure of the amount of organic carbon\u2014stored in the trunks, limbs, and leaves of trees.
