At a recent birthday party for Strom, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/articles\/A20730-2002Dec6.html\" target=\"_blank\">Trent Lott made quite the ass of himself<\/a> with the <a href=\"http:\/\/slate.msn.com\/?id=2075151\" target=\"_blank\">remarks he made<\/a> about Strom&rsquo;s failed bid for president in 1948.  Which is worse, kissing ass without even knowing Strom&rsquo;s record or actually agreeing with the policies he promoted back then?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2002\/ALLPOLITICS\/12\/09\/lott.comment\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Trent Lott issued a written apology Monday night<\/a>, but the damage has been done.
