{"id":13725,"date":"2005-01-12T22:14:00","date_gmt":"2005-01-12T22:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.driko.org\/blog\/2005\/01\/12\/ali-g-strikes-again\/"},"modified":"2005-01-12T22:14:00","modified_gmt":"2005-01-12T22:14:00","slug":"ali-g-strikes-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.driko.org\/blog\/2005\/01\/12\/ali-g-strikes-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Ali G Strikes Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roanoke.com\/news\/roanoke%5C16655.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" alt=\"Ali G\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.driko.org\/blogicons\/alig.jpg\" \/><\/a>I&rsquo;ve mentioned the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hbo.com\/alig\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ali G Show<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.driko.org\/2004\/09\/ali-g-rocks.html\" target=\"_blank\">before<\/a>, and I will reiterate my assertion that if you haven&rsquo;t watched this hilarious show, you really should. <\/p>\n<p>The show&rsquo;s purported Kazakhstani character <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roanoke.com\/news\/roanoke%5C16655.html\" target=\"_blank\">Borat nearly got lynched in a recent appearance at a rodeo<\/a> in which he was supposed to sing <i>The Star-Spangled Banner<\/i>.  He began by announcing his support of the United States&rsquo; war on terror, exclaiming, &ldquo;I hope you kill every man, woman and child in Iraq, down to the lizards,&rdquo; and &ldquo;And may George W. Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq.&rdquo; He ended his act by &ldquo;[launching] into a butchered version of <i>The Star-Spangled Banner<\/i> that ended with the words &lsquo;your home in the grave.&rsquo;&rdquo;  Needless to say, the crowd was just a little bit rowdy after that, and he hustled out of there before he got himself shot.<\/p>\n<p>I <i>so<\/i> want to see this episode now&hellip; \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/talk\/content\/?040920ta_talk_radosh\" target=\"_blank\"><i>The New Yorker<\/i> interviewed Roman Vassilenko, the press secretary for the Embassy of Kazakhstan<\/a>.  In the wake of <i>The Ali G Show<\/i>, he obviously &ldquo;wants to clear up a few misconceptions about his country:&rdquo;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Women are not kept in cages. The national sport is not shooting a dog and then having a party. You cannot earn a living being a Gypsy catcher. Wine is not made from fermented horse urine. It is not customary for a man to grab another man&rsquo;s <i>khrum<\/i>. <i>Khrum<\/i> is not the word for testicles.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The mere fact that the show has actually caused confusion is pretty funny, although I guess I&rsquo;d be a little chagrined if Ukraine was portrayed in that way.
