{"id":13308,"date":"2005-07-20T17:05:00","date_gmt":"2005-07-20T17:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.driko.org\/blog\/2005\/07\/20\/james-doohan-dead-at-85\/"},"modified":"2005-07-20T17:05:00","modified_gmt":"2005-07-20T17:05:00","slug":"james-doohan-dead-at-85","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.driko.org\/blog\/2005\/07\/20\/james-doohan-dead-at-85\/","title":{"rendered":"James Doohan Dead At 85"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2005\/SHOWBIZ\/TV\/07\/20\/obit.doohan.ap\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" alt=\"Scotty\" src=\"http:\/\/www.driko.org\/blogicons\/scotty.jpg\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2005\/SHOWBIZ\/TV\/07\/20\/obit.doohan.ap\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">James Doohan died this morning<\/a> at the age of 85 due to pneumonia and Alzheimer&rsquo;s Disease.  <a href=\"http:\/\/us.imdb.com\/name\/nm0001150\/\" target=\"_blank\">Doohan<\/a> was best known for playing the character Montgomery Scott, better known as the engineer Scotty, in the original <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Star_Trek:_The_Original_Series\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Star Trek<\/i><\/a> TV series as well as in seven of the subsequent movies and the <i>Next Generation<\/i> episode <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Relics_%28TNG_episode%29\" target=\"_blank\">&ldquo;Relics.&rdquo;<\/a> As his <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scotty\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Wikipedia<\/i> entry<\/a> points out,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Scotty also became a kind of general clich\u00e9 for any chief engineer in the movie genre of science fiction parodies.
