{"id":11826,"date":"2007-09-12T22:06:00","date_gmt":"2007-09-12T22:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.driko.org\/blog\/2007\/09\/12\/the-norwegian-drop\/"},"modified":"2007-09-12T22:06:00","modified_gmt":"2007-09-12T22:06:00","slug":"the-norwegian-drop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.driko.org\/blog\/2007\/09\/12\/the-norwegian-drop\/","title":{"rendered":"The Norwegian Drop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/strangemaps.wordpress.com\/2007\/07\/27\/155-the-norwegian-drop\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"420\" alt=\"The Norwegian Drop\" src=\"http:\/\/www.driko.org\/blogicons\/norwegiandrop.jpg\" \/><\/a><br \/><i>strange maps<\/i>&rsquo; find <a href=\"http:\/\/strangemaps.wordpress.com\/2007\/07\/27\/155-the-norwegian-drop\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Norwegian Drop<\/a> was &ldquo;a poster proposal for Norway\u2019s pavilion at the World Exhibition in Seville (Spain) in 1992.&rdquo;  As the post explains, &ldquo;[The] painting is aimed at visualizing how [hydroelectric power] is entirely renewable and is a result of Norway\u2019s distinct geography.&rdquo;  Definitely check out the full-size version and see if you can spot these geographic features:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Norway is a foaming mass of water gushing down a rocky mountainside that to the right looks like the rest of Scandinavia. <\/li>\n<li>A nice touch: Iceland is formed by a\u2026 spot of ice on the side of the mountain towering over the landscape.<\/li>\n<li>Rivulets of water form the boundaries of Finland and Sweden, Russia\u2019s Kola peninsula is defined by the stagnant pond next to it.<\/li>\n<li>The \u2018head\u2019 of Norway at its southern end is a waterfall, perpetually showering Denmark\u2019s Jutland peninsula with crystal clear Norwegian water.<\/li>\n<li>That water flows on to etch the edges of Europe out of its rocky landscape \u2013 clearly a reference to what the northern desolation of Norway must look like.<\/li>\n<li>A road winding down through northern Germany, past the Benelux countries and via France leads to where Italy should be.
