Composer George Wyle Passed Away

George Wyle died at the age of 87 yesterday. Although perhaps best known as the composer of “The Ballad Of Gilligan’s Island,” most of his work was before my time. Wyle also wrote the Christmas classic “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and more than 400 other songs. Asked about the popularity of his TV theme compared to his other work, Wyle said “America doesn’t want great music themes, just something it can remember.” Looking at things in that perspective, he was definitely an unqualified success.

Portly Jedi Movies

Waxy.org has a great post about a slightly, um, husky kid practicing his Jedi moves in front of a video camera. Obviously, the video has made it onto the Internet, including a remix version overdubbed with lightsaber noises (both links point to Windows Media Video files). I probably shouldn’t make fun, but of course I will. The kid isn’t totally bad, but his portly stature combined with his slightly awkward sense of coordination results in a pretty funny video.

W vs. W

Take a look at this hilarious Daily Show video featuring a debate between President W and Governor W (links directly to RealVideo). I’ll save the rant on W (for once), because I think the video speaks for itself.

Jon Stewart never fails to get me rolling on the floor in laughter; I so want Comedy Central! Only a few more weeks, and we move into our new home in Calvert County where we will finally have it and a couple of other channels I’ve been waiting in vain for. Woo hoo!
